Fun at the World Cup

I read an article recently talking about the brothel expansion in Germany for the World Cup. In Germany, prostitution is legal. The prostitutes are registered and pay taxes and receive social services. The story went on to say that the pending World Cup is expected to be a boon for the sex industry. Additional brothels are being built to handle the increase in business, with one owner stating that they expected to double or triple there usual flow of 130 customers a day.

What struck me about this article was a comment from a US congressman. He called on Germany to outlaw prostitution. He said Germany doesn't do enough to combat the sex trade. I don't understand what his problem is.

Here in the States prostitution is illegal except for Nevada. However, abortion on demand is legal. How are these two issues related? Well, one of the core arguments for abortion is that a woman should have the right to choose what happens to her own body. No one should be able to tell her how to use her uterus. Its her body, her choice. But isn't prostitution a choice as well. If a woman of legal age and sound mind wishes to make a living using her body for sex, isn't that the same thing? How can government say "abortion: your body your choice" but then turn around and make prostitution illegal?

One may argue: but prostitution is wrong and degrades women but isn't the same argument used for abortion. What do you think? Contradiction or no Contradiction?

First legalizing doesn't increase the number of prostitutes. Just coz it's illegal there are still prostitues everywhere female and male including Iran.

I think George Carlin put it best when he said "Why is it illegal to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away?" Germany has the right attitude. Americans trying to regulate sex are usually xtian fundamentalists trying to use the laws to force their morality on the masses. They should all be killed, and I should be given a Japanese woman as a reward for my innovative idea. =)

I don't like the idea of prostitution, but I like sexual abuse even less. Do you think there is a correlation?

sj-you're right of course but legalization would bring it above board and pehaps make it safer?

jackt-it will be interesting to see as the tax base continures to shrink what the legislators will be willing to legalize and tax

grant-I had a Japanese woman for you but she commited sepukku.

eotr-I am assuming you mean that if prostitution was legal there would be less sexual abuse? I would say no because sexual abuse is more about power than sex.

prostitution should be legalised, though i suppose kept on the minimum...

If only to keep the male population sane - just think of the culture of Victorian England.

What doesnt happen above board is just going to happen below.

Contradiction.

Although I don't agree with either being legalized.

Well, in part. Abortion as a means of birth control? Wrong. But I'd like to know the option was there if some freak raped me. I don't want some messed up kid with those genes.

Legalizing prostitution? Dumb. People make enough money off pornography do they not? Seems to be one and the same to me. Women/men prostitute themselves for thousands of dollars every year as it is in the adult film industry.

Bah. The world is full of disgusting morals.
