What's in a name?
I noticed something again today. I don't know if this happens throughout the world, but its very common in the States. I was behind a Chevy truck. The tailgate said Chevrolet, the sticker said ,"Joe Bob's Chevy Central on the Parkway," so I safely assumed the truck was a Chevy. But just in case I was unsure, there was a giant Chevy symbol in the window with Hearbeat of America written inside. As I passed, in case I didn't see the Chevy symbols on the front or sides, a giant white-lettered Chevrolet was across the top of the front windshield.
You see this all the time, on all cars, not just Chevys. I wonder why we're so taken with being associated with a particular brand? How strange that we pay a company to advertise their products. Clothes are even worse. We pay 50 bucks (at least some people do) for a shirt of low quality just for the name on the front.
This is nothing new, it just hits me from time to time. What name brands do you swear by? One of mine is North Face. See I'm guilty of what I just complained about. But my North Face shirts are of very high quality!

whats in any man-made system. Pre-conception. The allusion of worth/power/money/gifts. We have fallen so far into our own egos that we're coming out the wrong end.
my Levi Riders are the BEST jeans around. no argument. [i have 2 pairs]
I used to be so obessed with NIKE that I saved up money to buy the expensive shoes. Unfortunatly my popularity did NOT increase. DAMN THE NIKE COMPANY FOR IT'S FAILURE!
I'm not cool enough for name brands to matter. I could wear all the designer labels, and well still not that popular. haha
You know what "brand" gets me as crazy? The diamond "brand" Tiffany's, I mean Diamonds come in sizes and qualites rated by a universal(pretty much) diamond's rating board. So Getting a D Diamond from Blue Nile is the same damn thing as getting a D Diamond from Tiffany's, EXPECT for the Blue box it comes in. WHO CARES? why spend 2k more to get the blue box? Wouldn't you rather have a 2k better diamond? It blows my mind.
I'm just impresed that you know what a D diamond is. My knowledge is limited to "Ohhh, look at the pretty sparkles!"
My first pair of name brand shoes were canvass Nikes with a blue swipe. Before that I'd worn Sears out of the catalog. I'll never forget that day (almost 30 years ago). For a moment, I was in style.
The best place to shop for name brands is thrift stores. You can get J.Crew sweaters for 2 bucks. Enough of this overspending for a name. It's so silly.
What happnes in India is very different. You get "souped up" labels. I've seen the Suzuki's with Mercedes labels. Customizing cars and bikes to look like a plush brand is big biz. You can dream right?
Reminds me of the time I saw a fellow talking on a giant fake plastic cell phone.
YOur right EOTR-50 bucks for a pair of jeans with holes that looks like it was run over. Crazy.
Thanks all for commenting.
I like all my Van Heusen clothes - pants and shirts - although they don't feel the need to loudly advertise.
The one I always thought was silly were white letter tires - paying more for them than whitewalls so you could help advertise their product.
