Where are you going?

37 Million Expected to Travel for Holiday Weekend
Friday, May 26, 2006

WASHINGTON — The number of Americans driving and flying over the Memorial Day holiday weekend is expected to rise only slightly this year as consumers respond to the rising cost of airfares, hotel rooms and motor fuel, according to travel agency AAA.

Are any of you going anywhere special this weekend? Personally, I will be working both Sat and Sun. No one I know is going anywhere either. If its so busy, why does anyone go at all? Who wants to fight crowds and how far can you go on a three day weekend.

Here is wishing all of you a pleasant Memorial Day and I am thankful for every soldier who has sacrificed his life to assure freedom for us all.

Who are you? Really?

Wife 'didn't realise husband was a woman'
12:55pm 15th May 2006

" A transsexual whose 17-year marriage to an heiress was nullified when the wife discovered her husband was a woman is not legally a "parent" of her 14-year-old daughter born from donor sperm, the Court of Appeal ruled today.

The female-to-male transsexual, referred to in court as Mr J, is now in law a man under the 2004 Gender Recognition Act and can lawfully marry a woman if he wishes.

Mr J, born with gender dysmorphia, underwent hormone treatment and had breasts removed before, at the age of 30, he met and married Mrs C, then aged 20 and from a wealthy background.

He concealed his true gender from her for 17 years, using a home-made part of the anatomy for sex. At a Court of Appeal hearing in 1996, Mr J failed in a bid for a share of the marriage wealth, including a £400,000 home. "

This story is silly on the surface, but then I wonder: Do we truly know those who we are close to? While most of us can tell the sex of our significant others, what deeper things are they hiding? And ourselves. Who are we, really? What are you concealing that you don't want discovered? Can you truly ever know someone? Can you truly know yourself?

Da Vinci Hubbub

The Da Vinci Code movie is coming out this month and already the Catholic Church among others is lining up against it. Sunday morning I heard a Christian radio personality say, “this story is obviously a plot from the depths of hell.” You can’t buy publicity like this.

I have started reading the book in preparation for the movie. Tom hanks with Ron Howard directing? Got to be good. So far it is a pretty decent mystery type story. Mystery and detective works aren’t my favorite genre so I have delayed reading it until now. With so much negative press from the church, I have to wonder: is the book and its concepts evil?

If the church was really smart, it would recommend the book and demand everyone read it. Then nobody would, but this violent reaction, does that not cause an opposite reaction, stirring people’s curiosity? Are religious leaders afraid that people’s faith is so weak that reading this book will un-convert them? I grant the argument that someone who is new to the faith might be confused by the book, but is that enough reason not to read it for what it is…a good story.

What do you think? Have you read the book? Was your faith damaged? Would it be better for Christians not to read it? I’ll let you know when I finish.

Fun at the World Cup

I read an article recently talking about the brothel expansion in Germany for the World Cup. In Germany, prostitution is legal. The prostitutes are registered and pay taxes and receive social services. The story went on to say that the pending World Cup is expected to be a boon for the sex industry. Additional brothels are being built to handle the increase in business, with one owner stating that they expected to double or triple there usual flow of 130 customers a day.

What struck me about this article was a comment from a US congressman. He called on Germany to outlaw prostitution. He said Germany doesn't do enough to combat the sex trade. I don't understand what his problem is.

Here in the States prostitution is illegal except for Nevada. However, abortion on demand is legal. How are these two issues related? Well, one of the core arguments for abortion is that a woman should have the right to choose what happens to her own body. No one should be able to tell her how to use her uterus. Its her body, her choice. But isn't prostitution a choice as well. If a woman of legal age and sound mind wishes to make a living using her body for sex, isn't that the same thing? How can government say "abortion: your body your choice" but then turn around and make prostitution illegal?

One may argue: but prostitution is wrong and degrades women but isn't the same argument used for abortion. What do you think? Contradiction or no Contradiction?

Got hit...Saw it coming

Wal-Mart Super Centers can be to big. Sometimes you just want to run in, get a few things and run out. That's all I wanted when I went to the Dollar General store. A few cleaning items, maybe a coke or gummy worms, you know, the worthless crap you get at a variety store.

Pulled into the parking lot, and parked. Got out and noticed I wasn't up all the way into the park. For a moment, I considered getting back in and pulling up all the way, but I though no need and went into the store.

After taking much to long, I purchased my items and left. As soon as I walked out the door, I knew I'd been hit (the bumper is white, and I could see a black streak across it) I bargained with myself as I walked. Maybe its dirt I said, or maybe just a black streak I can wipe off with my hand. But no, it was damage. All bumpers any more are plastic and the impact of the car had split the plastic.

The person who hit me hit and ran. No attempt to find me no note on the windshield. I have cursed them and all their seed for eternity but what I want to know is, did I have a premonition. Is there such a thing. When I got out, I had the urge to move the vehicle but didn't and it may be since I wasn't pulled all they way up, it was my own fault for getting hit.

Do you believe in premonition? Have you had one. Maybe I did or maybe my minds experiences were trying to warn me of a potential hazard. I don't know, but my deductible is $500. Mighty expensive for a trip to the DOLLAR General.
